Arrested For Protest
After months of protesting against corporate greed, corruption and other factors that caused the economic and financial disasters, Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa sent in the cavalry last night. After a 12:01 a.m. Monday deadline came and went for protesters to leave encampments, everybody knew that the sand in the hour glass was moving fast. Last night that sand all fell into the bottom of the hour glass, as armored LAPD troops took to the streets to break up the protest party. Of course, the LAPD and their public relations crews tried to spin their actions by saying they needed to clean the park, and that they heard children were in the encampments. Basically, they were looking for any justification to turn on the green light and disrupt those who were utilizing their Constitutional Rights to protest what they feel is unjust.
Occupy Los Angeles made news headlines all across the country in the early morning hours, as 1,400 police officers broke up the protest encampments, sending over 200 into detainment. However, this article is not going to be aimed at some of the claims that police officers were too physical with peaceful protesters or anything like that. Instead, the topic people should be discussing is the main topic about protesting when people feel their government has failed them.
Your Tax Dollars At Work
Tax dollars are grossly overspent and misused all of the time. For example, from 1997-2003 reports show that the Department of Defense invested in roughly 270,000 commercial airline tickets that were never used, leaving American taxpayers on the hook for nearly $100 million dollars. Government waste is nothing new, and the decades of corruption and non-accountability are part of the catalyst behind the occupy movements and protests. However, the primary problem that this GPS tracker specialist believes is happening is that facilities that are built and maintained with taxpayer dollars are now becoming off-limits to those who want to share their disapproval for the actions by what is looking more and more like a very corrupt government at many different levels.
As the people, we are given very few tools to combat injustice, but the power of protest has long been one of the weapons Americans could call upon. Taxpayer money funds public parks, public roadways and even the city halls where Mayors decide to break-up peaceful demonstrations. If people cannot protest at the places their tax dollars built, then where can they go? Where should they go?
What protesters should do is stand on the steps at City Hall so the crooked politicians have to hear every single day the voices of the suppressed. The voices of the people.
This GPS fleet tracker expert does not necessarily agree with everything the occupy movement is doing, but they should be given the opportunity to voice their frustrations in a peaceful fashion. Sadly, in the early hours many of those voices were muted. However, those voices that were muted will regroup and shout once more at different locations about the evil and corruption that has plagued our country for much too long. At least until the LAPD finds an excuse to remove them from that location as well.
Your Opinion
Do you agree with the occupy movements all across the United States and in Los Angeles?
If protesters are denied the opportunity to voice their disapproval on public property where should they be allowed to go?
Is freedom of speech in this country becoming censored?
