Political Surveillance

Should Political Figures Be Required To Wear GPS Tracking Devices?

corruptionThe old saying is that there is nothing more crooked and dirty than a politician. Sadly, Americans have become completely numb to the endless amount of corruption that lawmakers engage in. People are used to seeing political candidates take exorbitant amounts of cash from corporations who will later have influence on voting trends and policy. People are used to seeing agenda-driven suits who used to be CEOs of corporations such as Goldman Sachs be appointed to the United States Treasury, only to create bailouts to fund their old work place. With so much corruption running rampant in Washington, should lawmakers with checkered histories be required to wear GPS trackers to monitor their movements?

The President is entitled to nearly $450,000 a year for life, including all of the other health and retirement benefits. Senators receive $150,000 for life, among other benefits, yet our military servicemen and women only make a fraction of that. Whatever happened to civil service? What ever happened to getting involved with politics to help the community? The current blueprint is giving politicians more money than they deserve for a job that should not be about acquiring wealth. Political jobs should be about keeping government small. About helping the community. Those holding those positions should be making no more than the average salary of the American worker and not a penny more.

The current lawmakers in Washington should focus on cutting the deficit, creating job growth and securing our nation; not worrying about re-election because it pays so much. This is one of the problems with politics, when more money becomes involved; there becomes an increased risk of fraud and corruption. Since political figures will probably not be taking a pay cut anytime in the near future, the only way to monitor for corruption is to create an atmosphere of transparency where politicians suspected of misusing taxpayer dollars or other ethics crimes undergo surveillance under a number of different avenues, even potentially GPS tracking.

Should corporations and companies no longer be allowed to contribute to political campaigns?

Should there be more harsh sentences given to those who use political power for personal gain or corruption?

Since taking advantage of the American people and their hard earned money could be viewed as a sign of treason, could the death penalty or life in prison be enough to scare crooked politicians into doing the right thing? Should politicians who take corporate favors be tried for treason?

Will the country ever break away from the two party system?
