Clippers Sign Kenyon Martin

Possibilities Huge For Los Angeles If Martin Signs

kenyon martinThe Clippers have shown that they are not the younger brothers, junior varsity squad or inferior "other" team sharing the Staples Center. They have proven through approximately the first 20 games of the season that they are the real deal. They have beaten the Lakers, out-lasted the Miami Heat and showed that even though they are still a team building chemistry, they are ready to win now. After signing free agent Caron Butler and pulling of the shocking trade for Chris Paul, the Clippers were able to steal Chauncey Billups off the waiver wire. However, that might not be the end of the rabbits hiding in the hat of the Clippers with rumors swirling that Kenyon Martin may come to Los Angeles as a free agent once he plays out his contract in China.

The Clippers are still very much a team in progress, but there is no arguing the talent stacked on the new look team from Los Angeles. The team has an above average center in DeAndre Jordan, one of the best guard duos in the league with Paul and Billups and a youthful and exciting forward in Blake "The Highlight Dunk" Griffin. However, the bench depth has been questioned, causing many NBA sports analysts to predict that the Clippers will be a second round playoff team at best. Although it is very early to consider the Clippers a championship-caliber team with the western conference stacked with talented teams, if Los Angeles could somehow snag Martin when he becomes available, they would have to be considered favorites alongside the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"The excitement felt throughout Southern California has been electric since Paul came over from a trade from the New Orleans Hornets", explained a sports writer working for GPS fleet tracking distribution company GPS Tracker Shop. "Rumor has it that Billups, an ex-teammate and friend of Kenyon Martin, has been in communication with the forward playing in China, convincing him that Los Angeles is the place to be. If Billups can convince him to play at the Staples Center, the Clippers would have essentially all the pieces necessary to contend for the championship."

Currently, the Clippers are sitting as the third seed in the western conference, but a couple losses could easily place them on the outside looking in since the west is so tough. A fresh Kenyon Martin would be a welcome addition to any team, and his name is certainly going to be mentioned among all contenders all the way up until he becomes available in March. With the Knicks being essentially irrelevant, and the Lakers and Heat set at the forward position, the Clippers appear to be the odds on favorite. However, Martin is a veteran who has paid his dues, and will go to the team he wants to play for, regardless of which team is the favorite on paper to win a championship.
