Golf's Best Embarrassed At PGA
Major championships are the ultimate test for professional golfers. With courses designed to punish player mistakes, only the mentally strong can win a major title. Men such as Jack, Arnold, Bobby and Tiger have become household names for their ability to win major tournaments against the world's best golfers. However, the elite names of golf better make room for one more because a golfing sensation from Northern Ireland by the name of Rory Mcllroy is now on the short list of players to ever win multiple major titles.
Mcllroy was a golf prodigy who started swinging clubs at a very young age in his home country of Northern Ireland. Therefore, many European tour players knew who the kid with the smooth swing was way before he bursted onto the scene during the 2011 Masters. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be his coming out party in 2011 at Augusta turned into a nightmare when he fell apart on Sunday, losing the lead and the tournament in dramatic fashion. What appeared to be the type of setback that could permanently ruin an athlete's psyche, Mcllroy showed poise and class. He said he would learn from the experience and be better for it, and he was right. Mcllroy won the U.S. Open in dominate fashion that same year and instantly was crowned the next Tiger Woods.
After all the hype and a stretch of play that was average, Mcllroy started showing signs that he may only be a one-hit wonder. That all changed this past weekend when the youngster totally embarrassed the field at the PGA Championship, winning by an unimaginable 8 strokes.
"Winning a golf tournament against professional players from all across the globe by a eight stroke margin of victory is simply unthinkable", a sports editor for GPS Tracker Shop stated. "But doing this at a major tournament is the stuff of legends."
By securing his second major title, Mcllroy has reclaimed the number one position in the world golf rankings, and has asserted himself as this generation's next great player. Woods was the player that once held that position, but it is clear that injuries and personal matters have impacted his game in a negative way. That left the door wide open for Mcllroy, who has all the tools required to potentially be one of the best players the game of golf has ever seen.
